  • Material B (Visible Range): H-BK7 Optical Glass. A high-quality crown glass standard for visible light applications, offering excellent homogeneity and clarity.

  • Design: Precision-manufactured spherical lenses (plano-convex, bi-convex, etc.) with surfaces ground and polished to exact radii for specific focal lengths.


2. Defining Physical & Optical Properties:

  • Broad Spectrum Transmission: UV Fused Silica transmits deeply into the UV range (down to ~185nm), while H-BK7 covers the visible spectrum optimally.

  • Low Aberration & High Homogeneity: Both materials exhibit excellent uniformity with minimal inclusions or striae, critical for reducing optical distortion and scatter in sensitive measurements.

  • Environmental Stability: Fused silica offers exceptional resistance to laser damage and thermal shock. H-BK7 provides good chemical durability and stable refractive index.

  • Precision Surface Quality: Surfaces are finished to tight tolerances on curvature, centering, and scratch-dig specifications to ensure wavefront fidelity.


3. Primary Function in a System:

  • Light Collection & Collimation: Used to effectively gather, focus, or collimate light from a source, sample, or entrance slit within the spectrometer.

  • Spectral Image Formation: Form sharp images of spectral lines onto a detector (e.g., CCD, photomultiplier tube), directly impacting resolution and signal strength.

  • Minimizing Signal Loss: High transmission and low scatter properties maximize light throughput, enhancing the system's sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio.
